BODEGA INVADES AFRO FUNKE’
guest deejays:
DJs Cee Brown & Panamami Los Angeles is the best known and least understood megacity on Earth. Behind the airbrushed images Hollywood broadcasts lies a place at the juncture of the first world, third world, and thousands of miles of water that defines and defies every notion of what constitutes a city. For the last century, go-getters have flocked to the town at the edge of the world to chase their dreams, and the result is maybe the most concentrated, ethnically diverse collection of forward thinkers in history. Named after the urban corner stores where people of all cultures come to find something familiar and something different without breaking their pockets or skipping a smile, BODEGA’s mission is much the same: to unite the many sounds and peoples of the world under one roof, and represent the true face of L.A. in the process. Held every other Sunday in the Little Tokyo section of downtown Los Angeles, La Bodega has swiftly amassed a cult following thanks to its broad appeal, warm vibe and come one-come all attitude. Resident DJs and L.A. natives Cee Brown, Panamami and Melaaza form a gumbo of Latin, African and Caribbean influences that consistently shines through in the Bodega musical format, which Cid describes as “alive.”
After a six year stint on the East coast, DJ Panamami returned to her hometown of Los Angeles to quickly become one of Southern California’s most sought-after DJ’s. Panamami's sharp turntable skills and broad taste in music has resulted in gigs across California, from San Francisco to San Diego. She is also one of the few American Dj's who have had the pleasure of spinning for crowds in South Korea. It is in L.A., however, that Dj Panamami continues to truly make her mark. She has held several residencies, including a rotating Dj position for The Grasshopper at Little Temple in Silverlake, alongside hosts Badru Umi and famed, LA rapper Aceyalone. You can currently find Panamami spinning world music–from Brazilian beats to dancehall and cumbia–at Bodega, the fastest growing party in the city of Los Angeles.
DJ CeeBrown (L.A.) started his DJ career in 1995 as the DJ for the B.L.X. crew. He later went on to DJ for I AM OMNI, then the Pharcyde Touring across the globe. In 2009 he along with some DJ friends started BODEGASundays, a celebration of world music and DJ culture accompanied with live drummers and other instrumentation .Known for his Soulful selections and & Rhythmic Mixing Skills CeeBrown is known to rock the party. http://www.bodegasundays.blogspot.com http://djceebrown.blogspot.com
